City Kat and Sailing - Wednesday, March 3

The City Kat was set to depart at 9 a.m. Since Cheryl was the only one who arrived on time, the City Kat had to wait for Katy, Kristi and Susanna. Katy and Kristi made it with one minute to spare, but since the team was not complete, the City Kat captain was gracious enough to hold the boat beyond its scheduled time for Susanna. As Susanna turned the corner, we all yelled "RUN." She did...and so did her host family "dad" Bob. They leaped onto the boat at 9:03 as the captain said over the loud speaker "Good afternoon Susanna, welcome aboard!" Once the team was FINALLY together, they enjoyed a leisurely ride down the Brisbane River.

The team sailed off into the afternoon. Wednesdays on Moreton Bay, Brisbane holds the WAGS (Wednesday Afternoon Gentleman's Sail) race. Barry took off on a race boat while Cheryl and Susanna joined the crew of a 38' catamaran. Their "help" was not required and they relaxed through the whole race. Meanwhile, Kristi and Katy spent their afternoon tacking and working hard on their sail. (They have bruises to prove it.)

It was a lovely day and as one of the crew said, "An afternoon sailing won't be subtracted from your days in heaven."

The team attended the Wynnum and Manly club meeting in the evening and was received warmly by all. We sang, introduced ourselves and got to know our host club. Thanks to our host families and Outbound Team Leader Alison Blomkamp for joining us!

Hey Katy,
If we ever need a first mate, you're manning the ropes!
Nice blog-great photos!
